Megan has participated in autism events, walks and other activities in the past, however, she felt they didn’t directly benefit the students she worked with. In 2008, she was part of the group that started the walk in Mankato to raise money to bring in a speaker that would be free to parents and caregivers and a low cost to educators in the area. In 2009, Megan became the first Chairperson of the Southern Minnesota Autism Coalition, a non-profit organization, created after the initial team of walk organizers wanted to continue the effort to promote autism awareness and education within region 9.
